Sincethen,wehavebuiltapartnershipdefinedbytrust,consistency,andtheabilitytostandtogetherthroughdifficulttimesandshiftingglobalrealities.Whatbeganasadiplomaticengagementhasevolvedintoamodelofenduringcooperationbetweenourtwonations.

Thisrelationshipisalsodeeplypersonalforme.Mylatefatherinlaw,ShaheedZulfikarAliBhutto,andShaheedMohtarmaBenazirBhutto,believedstronglyinbuildinglastingtieswithChinaandplayedpivotalrolesinshapingourearlycooperation.

Thatlegacycontinuesintothethirdgeneration.Myson,BilawalBhuttoZardari,anddaughter,AseefaBhuttoZardari,arebothactivelyengagedinstrengtheninglinksbetweenourtwonations.

Ourconnection,however,predatesmoderndiplomacy.Forcenturies,theregionsthatarenowinPakistanandChinawerelinkedthroughtheancientSilkRoad—routesthatcrossedmountainsandrivers,carryinggoods,cultureandideasbetweenourpeoples.Theseexchangeshavelaidthefoundationforarelationshipthatisbothhistoricandnatural.

Pakistan-Chinarelationshaveneverbeentransactional.Theyarerootedinmutualrespect,trustandasharedunderstandingofeachother'spriorities.

Since1951,wehavesupportedeachotheronissuesofcoreimportance,includingPakistan'sfirmcommitmenttotheone-ChinaprincipleandourroleinsupportingChina'srightfulplaceattheUnitedNationsin1971.

Whatmakesthispartnershipuniqueishowithasevolved.Regularhigh-levelexchangeshavekeptitforward-looking,translatingpoliticalunderstandingintopracticalcooperation,acrossinfrastructure,energy,tradeandagriculture—areasthatdirectlyimpactpeople'slives.

Ihavewitnessedthisclosenessfirsthand.DuringmyearliertenureasPresidentfrom2008to2013,IvisitedChinafrequently.

Thesevisitswerenotmerelyofficialengagements;theywereopportunitiestodeepentrust,observeChina'stransformationandfortifyourgenuinefriendship.

Myvisitsagainin2025broughtthoseexperiencesfullcircle.

ThescaleofChina'sprogressisextraordinary.UndertheleadershipofPresidentXiJinping,Chinahasconsolidateditspositionasaleadingglobalpowerandtheworld'ssecond-largesteconomy.

Thistransformationreflectsvision,discipline,andasustainedcommitmenttodevelopmentthathasreshapedtheglobaleconomiclandscape.

Throughprofoundshiftsintheinternationalsystem—fromtheColdWartotoday'smorecomplexandfragmentedworld—Pakistan-Chinarelationshaveremainedresilient.

Atatimewhendivisionsoftendominateglobaldiscourse,ourpartnershipstandsoutforitsconsistencyandclarityofpurpose.

Wedonotviewsecurityanddevelopmentasarace;weseeitasasharedjourney.ThisbeliefshapesourcooperationattheUnitedNations,withintheShanghaiCooperationOrganisation,andacrossthebroaderGlobalSouth,reflectingasharedcommitmenttomultilateralismanddialogue.

Thisapproachalsoguidesouractionsintimesofcrisis.DuringtherecentwarinvolvingtheUnitedStates,IsraelandIran,Chinaplayedaconstructiverolebyencouragingrestraintandsupportingdialogue,aswellasresolutelybackingPakistan'smediationefforts,alongsideitsowncompellingdiplomaticengagement.Thisreflectedourconvictionthateventhemostcomplexdisputesmustberesolvedpeacefully.

China'sBeltandRoadInitiativehastakenthisphilosophyofsharedprogresstoaglobalscale.Byinvestingininfrastructureandconnectivity,ithasopenednewavenuesfortrade,strengthenedeconomiclinkages,andcreatedopportunitiesforgrowth.

Formanydevelopingcountries,ithasdemonstratedhowconnectivitycandriveinclusiveprosperity.

Withinthisbroadervision,theChina-PakistanEconomicCorridor(CPEC)standsasaflagshipofourcooperation.IthastransformedPakistan'sinfrastructure,reducedenergyshortages,andcreatedneweconomicopportunities.

AsCPECentersitsnextphase,ourfocusisincreasinglyonpeople-centereddevelopment—industrialcooperation,modernagriculture,jobcreation,andtechnologytransfer—toensuregrowthisbothsustainableandinclusive.

Ourdefensepartnershipremainsanotherkeypillarofthisrelationship.Cooperationindefensetechnology,training,andjointexerciseshasreinforcedPakistan'scapabilitieswhilecontributingtoregionalstability.Itisdefensiveinnatureandreflectsourcommitmenttopeace.

Yet,thetruestrengthofPakistan-Chinarelationsliesbeyondgovernmentsandagreements.Itrestsinthebondsbetweenourpeople.

Students,artists,entrepreneurs,andyoungpeoplefrombothcountriesarebuildingconnectionsthattranscendpoliticalcycles.Thesehumantiesgiverealmeaningtotheideaofan"all-weatherfriendship".

Thesymbolismofthisyear'sChinesezodiac—theYearoftheHorse—capturesthespiritofourpartnership:energy,resilience,andforwardmomentum.

Aswelookahead,ourdirectionisclear:deepencooperation,strengthensolidarityamongGlobalSouthnations,andworktogetherforarule-basedinternationalorder.

Ourpartnershipisnotdirectedagainstanycountry;itisrootedinmutualrespectandsharedprogress.

Seventy-fiveyearson,Pakistan-Chinarelationsremainstrong,steady,anddeeplyhumane—andthatenduringspiritwillcontinuetoguideusintothefuture.
